How do I care for my hair extensions?
It is important to take good care of your human hair extensions as this is the best way of extending their life expectancy - Treat the hair weave as if it was your own hair. Weavealicious' hair extensions do not need to be washed as frequently as our own hair and you need only wash the hair, once it begins to look dull and lifeless. Use good quality shampoo and conditioning products.
Wash and condition the hair in one direction, from top to bottom - avoid washing the hair upside down (in the sink) or scrunching the top of your head. Where possible try to use an appropriate shampoo and conditioner to hydrate hair and add moisture from the inside out. Conditioning your hair is very important as this maintains its softness. Daily use of a leave- in spray conditioner is essential for curly weaves, especially on the ends and can prolong the life of your hair. Try to avoid heavy oils, cremes, moose, gel and hairsprays as they will weigh down your weave causing a build-up, which can lead to tangling & odors! Be sure that your hair products are alcohol free as alcohol is a drying agent. With proper care, virgin hair will stay soft and beautiful even after multiple washes.
How do I wash my hair extensions?
When you remove your hair from your scalp, finger-comb through the hair. When shampooing, Do not massage but ensure that you rinse thoroughly with luke-warm water, and apply conditioner. Comb the conditioner through the hair with a wide-tooth comb starting with the ends, and working towards the weft. Rinse thoroughly again to ensure there is no left-over conditioner and Let the hair air dry naturally set in the desired style.
How do I brush/comb my hair extensions?
Always brush your hair with a human hair extension brush- starting from the bottom and working your way toward the weft/bonds. This will help to reduce tangling and shedding. Curly hair textures should only be brushed when wet, as doing this dry can make them frizzy.
Is it ok to blow dry, flat-iron, tonged or curled hair extensions?
You can absolutely treat your new hair just as you would your own. Curl it, straighten it and most of all, indulge in it! Try not to use too much heat as this will dry out your hair and shortens its lifespan .
Does hair extension shed/ tangle?
hair extensions are sewn on to a weft which can loosen over time which causes shedding. However, if your extensions start to tangle then it could due to the following factors: dryness, oil & dirt build-up, salt-water, chlorine, improper dying techniques, low quality colouring products or simply not brushing daily.
Can my new hair be colored?
Yes, hair extensions can be colored. Hair provided by Weavelicious Hair Extensions can handle the coloring process but once coloured at home we cannot accept liability for any damage caused. Be mindful that bleaching can significantly reduce the life expectancy of your hair. We recommend consulting a professional if you wish to color your new hair.
What should I do with my hair extensions while I'm sleeping?
It is always best to make a loose braid or ponytail for sleeping and wrap your hair every night - Silk, polyester or satin caps work well. Cotton, on the other hand, is unkind to edges and hair in general due to its drying properties - this is multiplied when combined with friction caused during sleeping. Always ensure your hair is completely dry when you go to bed as sleeping on wet hair can tangle and cause unpleasant odors over time.
Is it safe to go swimming with my hair extensions?
Yes, but you might want to braid your hair or pull it into a ponytail before you go into any deep water (this will prevent tangling). Wash the hair afterwards and make sure it is de-tangled using the an appropriate shampoo and conditioner.
How long will my new hair last?
The longevity of Weavealicious' hair extensions depends on how well the hair is maintained. Our hair will last for much longer, look healthier and feel stronger when it is well cared for - with proper care you hair extensions can last 6 to 12 months.
